School–led Improvement System

triadsEssex County Council’s vision is to establish a new system in which schools improve themselves by working in partnership with each other in a school-led improvement system which supports children and young people 0-25 to achieve their highest aspirations in education and employment.

Essex is working with Systems Leaders in the area to form this network. There are five types of system leaders in Essex: Executive Headteachers/CEOs, formally designated NLEs,NLGs, LLEs & SLEs, TSA Leaders, Leadership of small partnerships of schools & SLIS Board Members. These groups must have the capacity to work beyond their own schools.

There are a number of core principles under-pinning this system. Deep and tight partnerships of schools will be mutually responsible and accountable to an agreed body. They will have shared values and a common moral purpose. Teaching Schools will be an integral part of this system and there will be an expectation by governors that Headteachers will actively participate. School Leaders will facilitate teachers to work across the partnership. There will be strong governance and systems will be established to evaluate the impact of the partnership. All partnerships will be self-funding and sustainable.

We have begun in Wickford to establish Headteacher Triads, a Peer Review system which is supported by a number of Improvement Champions.
